Questions
Cost, timelines, shipping, materials — the things people actually ask before they commission a piece. Anything else, ask us directly.
Lion & Crown Mosaics, a Colorado Springs studio run by Simon Beames, makes every piece to order by hand and ships framed work crated and insured anywhere in the United States. There is no shelf stock and no imported sheet mosaic — you commission the piece, approve a full-size drawing, and it is cut for you. Start with a call or text to 719-521-8312.
Small framed pieces start from $650 and medium wall panels from $1,200. Custom murals and shower features run $180–$250 per square foot installed, because price follows size, materials — stained glass, smalti and natural stone all cost differently — and how intricate the cutting is. For murals and larger commissions the design consultation is $150–$250, credited in full toward the job; the first conversation is always free. Call or text 719-521-8312.
Both. Framed pieces are crated and shipped insured anywhere in the US, at the buyer’s cost, quoted before the piece leaves the studio. Murals, shower features and other built-in work are installed on site across the Colorado Front Range by Simon himself — a career tile installer — so the piece is set and waterproofed to trade standard.
Every piece is made to order by hand, so please allow a minimum of 30 days in the studio once the design is approved. Larger murals and installed pieces are scheduled further out. If you have a date in mind — a remodel deadline or a gift — say so early and the schedule gets built around it.
For Christmas delivery, order by November 15. Every piece is made to order by hand with a minimum of 30 days in the studio, so the Christmas order book closes on November 15 — orders placed after that are made in the new year. Call or text 719-521-8312 to start.
Yes — framed pieces are crated and shipped, insured, anywhere in the US. Shipping costs are the buyer’s, quoted at cost before the piece leaves the studio. Made-to-order pieces ship once the studio work is complete, so please allow a minimum of 30 days before dispatch.
Four steps. First, a free conversation about the space and the idea. Second, a full-size drawing with a colour palette and material samples for your approval — nothing is cut before you sign off the design. Third, the studio build: every piece hand-cut, checked and placed one at a time. Finally, installation for built-in pieces, or crated delivery of the finished work, grouted and sealed.
Hand-cut glass, stained glass, smalti and natural stone — never mass-produced mosaic sheets, which is why there are no visible grid lines in the work. Materials are matched to the setting: non-porous glass and freeze-thaw-stable bases outdoors, commercial-grade setting systems in wet areas.
Yes — it is one of the most popular places for them. Simon Beames is a career tile installer (26 years, Schluter-certified), so a shower mosaic is built on proper waterproofing and set to the same standard as the tile around it. Built that way, it will outlast the bathroom.
Shower walls and niches, kitchen backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, full wall murals, floors and entries, and outdoor medallions for patios and gardens. Framed pieces hang anywhere a picture can. If a wall can hold tile, it can hold a mosaic.
Yes. Most commissions start as a client’s photograph, a view from their land, or a rough idea, and are redrawn at full size as a mosaic design — simplified where the material demands it. You approve the drawing and the palette before any cutting starts, so there are no surprises.
Framed pieces are crated and shipped anywhere in the United States. Installed murals and built-in features are quoted individually depending on the project — start with a call or text to 719-521-8312 and talk through the space.
Yes — murals and feature pieces for restaurants, lodges, venues and offices, designed for the architecture and built to take public foot traffic. Start with a call or text to 719-521-8312 and talk through the space.
Much like good tile: warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner, and no harsh acids on stone or grout. Outdoor pieces want resealing on the same cycle as natural stone. Every finished piece comes with care notes specific to its materials.
Tell us the wall, the shower, the view you can’t stop thinking about. We’ll draw it full-size for your approval, cut it by hand, and ship it crated and insured — or install it on site across the Front Range.
